The most influential Tetra Pak in the Swiss packaging industry has launched what is considered to be the industry's first paper packaging box. It is made entirely of plant-based, renewable packaging materials. This brand-new Lirex packaging was developed by Tetra Pak in cooperation with Braskem, one of the world's top producers of biopolymers, and will be commercially available in early 2015.

According to the packaging company, the difference between Lirex and other paper boxes is that it is the first product made of a low density polyethylene (LDPE) film and a bio-based high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packaging lid. Both of these materials are derived from sugarcane, but in addition it is a board certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Charles Brand, Vice President of Tetra Pak's Marketing and Product Management, commented on the introduction of new products. He said that environmental excellence is the company's strategic focus and the driving force behind product development activities. He added that along with suppliers, customers and other stakeholders, it leads the industry in the direction of 100% renewable packaging. In addition, they are increasing the renewable content of their packaging, which not only benefits the environment but also provides customers with a competitive advantage in the overall environmental status of their products.

For existing customers who are using the standard 1-litre TrollCapOSO34 packaged in Tillerex, the company claims that they only need any additional investment or modify the filling machine they are currently using and can easily Transition to new packaging styles.
